June is chock-full of wine holidays, and we’re down to celebrate them all! Our Top Ten Wine Specialists are highlighting the best bottles to sip on through the month’s festivities. Sync your calendars, these are not to be missed.

June 5 — National Bubbly Day

Il Mostro Rosato “Longana” is a dazzling and expressive organic Pet-Nat Rosé hailing from Abruzzo in southern Italy. This watermelon-hued frizzante is a perfect pick for all things summer, with aromas of juicy strawberries, stunning floral notes and zippy grapefruit peel. Refreshing, balanced and dry on the palate, it showcases bright red berries and a soft salinity.

Carefully harvested Montelpulciano grapes are sourced from a single vineyard without any manipulation, just pure expression of fruit and site. The name Il Mostro refers to a mythical creature, “Longana,” with limbs like a goat to aide in traversing mountainous hillsides, and a mermaid-esque tail to grace the depths of the sea. Taste this natural harmony paired with a picnic basket full of charcuterie, soft cheeses and summer fruit preserves.

June 12, National Rosé Day!

Patiently waiting to pull corks for Rosé Day?

Get Central Coast producer Stolpman Vineyards’ 2020 Love You Bunches Rosé to the top of your list, pronto. This light-bodied 100% Grenache treat represents a rather cool 2020 vintage and a lively production style called Carbonic Maceration.

The result shines an eye-catching, flushed-cheeks pink in the glass, but the lifted, fresh aromatics of white summer flowers and strawberries with cream are far from demure. Sure to be a favorite summer sipper, Love You Bunches Rosé will quench your Rosé Day needs with bright, electric acidity, fresh melon, candied citrus, and tart strawberry. Do the day right with a pairing of fresh green salad with preserved Meyer lemon twists and a calamansi vinaigrette.

June 18, Drink Chenin Day!

Chenin Blanc is a versatile aromatic grape variety that produces myriad expressions ranging from bone dry to sweet dessert wines. Famously from the Loire Valley of France, today Chenin is planted most widely in South Africa, where it’s known locally as ‘steen.’

Celebrate this Drink Chenin Blanc Day with a glass of MAN Family Wines Sparkling Chenin Blanc, a creamy brut sparkler with notes of apricots, peaches, ginger, white flowers, and even some fun savory notes of cheese rind. This sparkling steen pairs effortlessly with cheeses from soft brie to funkier gorgonzola, shellfish or poultry, and makes a most intriguing pairing for more challenging spicy fare like vindaloo or cumin-laden stews.

June 21, World Lambrusco Day

The dark days of overly-sweet “cola wines” have long since passed and Italian Lambruscos are making a fizzy comeback. Hailing from as long ago as the Bronze age, Italians cultivated this family of grapes from wild, indigenous varieties found across the central hillsides.

Winemakers in the modern day Emilia-Romagna region will blend from this pool of about eight different Lambrusco variants to reflect their own unique terroir and varietal characteristics. Today’s Lambruscos range in color from light rosé to deep purple, and from the increasingly popular dry style to traditional semi-sweet. Celebrate this year with the modern classic Lambrusco Puianello Amabile, a deep, almost inky purple in the glass, framed by light, frothy bubbles. Rich, ripe aromas of cherry and cooked raspberries meld with flavors of ripe strawberries and warm spiced raisins. The semi-sweet bubbles are balanced by well-integrated tannins and acid. Best served lightly chilled.
