For those of you who do not know who I am, allow me to introduce myself. My name is Bill Abrahamson and my title in this company is Senior Wine Buyer. It’s a title I attained by being the oldest in our group. Well that and the fact that I’ve been doing this for thirty years. We have a lot of great tasters in the company and we do taste in groups to determine what are the best wines and what are the best wine values for our customers. We, the decision makers, want to populate our stores with wines that over-perform in all categories so you can have access to and can buy wines that make you happy! We taste a lot of wine each week to accomplish this task. You know the old saying,” It’s hard work but somebody has to do it.”

This week’s wines offer amazing value, including a 91-point Wine Spectator rated Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand for $10! We also have a Cabernet Sauvignon from Paso Robles that garnered 92 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate magazine. Lastly, we bring you a hand-picked rosé from the highly esteemed appellation of Tavel in Southern France. This is one of the greatest rosébuys I’ve ever found. This year our team will put in more than 12,000 miles of travel to find you the best wines available and next year even more. It’s hard work but you know the rest.

Cheers! -Bill “The Wine Guy”

Daou Cabernet Sauvignon Paso Robles 2017

Tasted from barrel, the 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is very promising, revealing a youthfully primary bouquet of currants and plums that’s already integrated its new oak. On the palate, it’s full-bodied, richly structured and generous, with a sun-kissed core of fruit and a dry, fine-grained finish. A cuvée that includes purchased fruit, this is typically a great value. I’m looking forward to seeing it from bottle.

Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough 2018

Distinctly Marlborough, this Sauvignon Blanc exudes vibrant ripe citrus notes, crunchy greens and hints of tropical guava on the nose. The palate is refined and elegant with superb natural fruit weight providing a juicy core of layered fruit, entwined with a salty textural acidity, vibrant citrus pith, and a moreish dry chalky finish. Another remarkable Wither Hills Sauvignon Blanc. A perfect match with plump oysters, green lip mussels, even prosciutto, and rockmelon.

4 Vents Tavel Rosé2018

The Tavel Roséutilizes a much longer maceration (grape skins in contact with the juice) time than other rosé wines. The result is an almost light red style. You can’t miss the color difference. It has aromas of melon, peach and cherries so lots of fruit in this medium-bodied wine. It also has a nice freshness and acidity. If you are looking for a rosé with more fruit and body, this is it!
