As always, headlights off & enjoy the show!
Top Gun: Maverick + High Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
Is it all about the shirtless Tom Cruise beach football scene? No…but kinda. Maverick takes the action-packed swagger we loved in the original and revamps it in an all-out-fun nostalgia burrito of self-aware quips and killer special effects. Director Joe Kosinski seems to have a deft appreciation for careful reprisal, balancing the classic core of action-adventure with a fun new levity. If that sounds familiar, maybe you’ve met High Valley wines. Winemaker Clay Shannon embraces fully the opportunity for fresher, more mindfully crafted California wines from his sustainable estate in Lake County. High Valley Cabernet is a suave expression of Lake County’s high altitude (get it?) with fresh blackberry, dark cherry juice, clove, cedar, and warm leather on the lightly-structured finish.
Jurassic World: Dominion + Le Mesnil Grand Cru Brut Champagne
If the hyphen has become a promise of high-production special effects in the movie world, then Dominion certainly delivers. That may not justify prolonging the franchise’s extinction at this point, but there’s no denying a flashy dino romp is always going to be a good time. Plus, Goldblum’s back! In celebration of the spectacle (and perhaps as an apt send-off) we’re popping the cork on some Le Mesnil Champagne! Famous for its mineral-driven Jurassic soils, the Champagne region produces fruit packed with tension and ripping-bright citrus. Framed by a rich toastiness and kinetic bubble, Le Mesnil’s Grand Cru Champagne is bursting with Meyer lemon, roasted cashew, fresh florals, and a bracing smack of seashell on the persistent finish. Hang onto your punts, it’s going to be a bubbly ride!
Elvis + Ironside Bourbon Barrel Red Blend
This film is worth your time for the wardrobe and soundtrack alone, folks. Even if you’re not a huge fan of musical biopics, in the hands of Baz Luhrmann and the very captivating Austin Butler as Elvis, you’re sure to be giddily swooning for The King. A true pageant of velvet and lace, the energy and authenticity Butler brings to the role is so beguiling you might forget it’s not 1956. And what better to match that silky bravado than a Bourbon barrel-aged California red blend? Ironside’s blend of Merlot and Petite Sirah brings lush and velvety black fruit, warm spice, and brawny structure to the mix, its time in ex-Kentucky Bourbon barrels rounding out the edges with notes of vanilla, caramel, and smoky oak. Cheers, mama.
