I do a lot of holiday shopping at Top Ten Liquors. I always have because people love getting nice wines as gifts. They get used, I mean consumed and not returned. It’s a thoughtful gift as friends and family create and maintain bonds over a glass of wine. It’s also a great idea to take a nice bottle (or two) along with you to a gathering. Here are a few suggestions for you. These are some of the best picks for 2019. I an interesting sweet wine on the list that pairs well with a holiday fruit and cheese plate.

Happy Holidays! -Bill “The Wine Guy”

Northstar Merlot Columbia Valley 2013

The 2013 vintage has rich concentrated aromas of cherry, raspberry, and chocolate that lead into flavors of cedar and vanilla with a lingering toasted oak finish. This highly structured wine was created to enjoy now, or for many years to come as it will age gracefully.

Chalk Hill Sonoma Chardonnay

The 2017 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is scented of lemon confit, Greek yogurt, honey toast, toasted almonds and stone over ripe red apple and white stone fruits. Medium-bodied, it offers pretty, savory/honeyed fruits with refreshing acidity and a long finish packed with honey-nut flavors.

Chateau Bel Air Saint Croix du Mont 375 ml

Château Bel Air – Cuvée Tradition has a golden color and a characteristic nose with hints of yellow, exotic fruit, wax, toast and spices. The palate is full-bodied, the attack sweet and evolving into aromas of fruit, spice and honey with unique notes of botrytis. Very harmonious with a good balance sugar acidity and a liqueur-like material without excess.

Wine pairing:

Serve chilled around 12°C, as an aperitif, as an accompaniment to foie gras, white meats, fish in sauce, sweetbreads, blue cheeses and chocolate desserts.
