“I rather admire the Spaniards for not sharing our time neurosis; but unfortunately I share it myself.”

George Orwell (English Novelist & Journalist)

If you ask tourists and expats why they love Spain, they’ll tell you it’s the culture.  Spaniards cherish taking their time and space to eat, drink, converse, and listen to local, outdoor performances.  Their enthusiasm and firm belief in the sacredness of those very human and simple pleasures has always conjured up the image of Spain as the idyllic travel destination or second home.  This tradition extends all the way back to Medieval times when Spanish serenades became popular.

Serenading in the Medieval times was typified by a guy standing outdoors in the middle of the night performing a musical piece under the balcony of his lover. The famed English composer Edward Elgar composed “Spanish Serenade” Opus 23 because, like many English travelers at the time, he too fell for Spain.  His “Spanish Serenade” was an homage to the idyllic Spanish night: a quiet evening outside including sipping wine, eating tapas, and listening to casual music.  This joyful tradition is the basis for our tastings theme: “Spanish Serenade.”

Care to create your own Spanish Serenade?  All you need is wine, music, and you — that’s it.

We may be homebound, but our minds and palates don’t have to be.  They can still be tourists, learning and experiencing wines from new regions, novel varieties, and unvisited categories.

Even if we can’t taste and learn together in stores, we want to continue bringing that experience to you. We’re launching a new virtual tasting program to bring our weekly selections straight to your home. Subscribe to our email list for updates, pick up our weekly take-home seminar bottles from stores, and download our tasting guides to lead you through each bottle. We’re offering exclusive savings for bottles featured in our weekly tastings. Our tasting guides are chock-full of knowledge:
