I first visited the Elk Cove winery in 2009 as part of the Pinot Camp training that was sponsored by prominent Willamette Valley wine producers. The Campbell Family have a beautiful spot in rural Gaston, Oregon. At that time, they were busy growing and implementing organic farming techniques.

The property was gorgeous then and even more beautiful this past June when I returned along with my wife Tammy for her first trip to the Willamette. At the tasting bar, a young student from a local university who was working on her geology degree showed Tammy and me a new line of wines the Campbell’s had launched, dubbed Pike Road. These wines are from vineyards near the Gaston site that had been purchased and developed in the recent past and they were terrific! Drinkable and rich, yet will pair well with a myriad of cuisines, I couldn’t wait to get these into our stores.

Check them out this Saturday at our stores from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M.

Cheers! -Bill “The Wine Guy”

Pike Road Pinot Noir Willamette Valley

The Pike Road 2016 Pinot Noir is a richly concentrated and elegant take on this classic Willamette Valley wine. Barrels from each of the single vineyard sites are selected for this blend. The wine is the color of garnet with aromas of dark cherry, baking spice, violets, and savory notes that entice. The palate offers more pie cherry forming a juicy core alongside hints of leather. Firm tannins dance around to give a long finish.

Pike Road Pinot Gris Willamette Valley

2018 was a vintage for rich, bold flavors in Willamette Valley wines. Starting hot and dry through the spring and summer, by September rain was a welcome relief. Cooler temperatures during harvest slowed ripening and increased hang-time. With multiple vineyards ripening simultaneously in October, our crew put in long hours at the end of crush. Their hard work has paid off with bold fruit-forward red wines and fresh, stone-fruited white wines that veer into the tropical. 2018 was a warm vintage that ended cool giving us wines with a captivating combination of flavors.
