This week I want to reach out to folks that are stuck in a wine rut. I know we fall into habits of eating and drinking the same old stuff and we tend to not take a lot of chances on new things. Wine and food are areas of our lives where a little exploration can be a lot of fun and the odd thing is; what was considered old can be can be new again! For those of you who have been drinking wines mostly from the New World, the Old World awaits with so much great new stuff. There is nothing hotter than blends and we have three great blends to try this week. These wine represent an agreeable combination of the traditional with a touch of modern. France doesn’t exist in a vacuum of outside influence. These producers are in touch with their foreign customers and are eager to please but not ready to pander to any audience. Chateau Mondésir-Gazin Blaye Côtes De Bordeaux 2010
Deep ruby garnet color with aromas of cherries, mushrooms, leather and white pepper. Ample tannins surround a fruity core of red fruits including red licorice and dried cherries. The finish includes some subtle flavors of roasted red bell peppers. A rich blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Malbec, the wine has a deep purple hue



Clos du Mont-Olivet Font de Blanche Côtes-du-Rhône 2011
ClosDuFontBlanche_WEB A blend of Grenache and Syrah with a touch of Cinsault. Bright ruby with intense black and blue fruit aromas, then complicated by olive and black pepper; really showing its Syrah component. Sappy boysenberry and bitter cherry flavors gain sweetness with air and pick up an exotic lavender pastille nuance. Finishes smooth and broad, with the blue fruit note echoing strongly.



Domaine Lafage Centenaire Côtes du Roussillon Blanc 2014
The Centenaire is a blend of old vine Grenache Blanc and Roussanne. The color is greenish yellow with brilliant reflections. The nose exhibits white flowers, very strong and intense with hints of vanilla, ripe fruits (bananas, exotic fruits ..) The mouth is ample, well structure, recalling the aromatic intensity of the nose with a subtle blend of white flowers and fruit.
