Way back in the formative years of the Caymus Winery, owner’s Chuck Wagner and his son Charlie would blend wines directly from bottle to create flavor profiles and make food pairing more fun. It was a game and there no blends they could go out and buy. In 1989 they came up with a righteously fruity white blend of their own made by combining six different varietals into a cacophonous and delicious entity.

The question arose as to what to call it? Conundrum solved! The name was perfect, and the popularity of the new white blend rose to a level not seen before. Well you know they had to come up with a red. It is rich, yet savory and oh so easy to love.

Conundrum Red N/V California Red Blend

“A rich, dark red, it offers aromas of ripe berries and plums, warmed by a hint of cocoa. Dried fruit and the taste of chocolate-covered cherries come through on the palate, while a wisp of smokiness makes this wine – created from dark red varietals including Petite Sirah, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon – the perfect complement to grilled meats and full-flavored dishes.” -Winemaker’s Notes

Conundrum White 2016 California White Blend

“A blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Muscat Canelli and Viognier. It lures you in with scents of apricot, pear and honeysuckle, and if you’re paying attention, orange and lemon meringue pie. Initial sweetness is balanced by natural acidity, and we love the hint of oak that plays with flavors of peach, apple and citrus. The long finish will leave you longing for another glass.” -Winemaker’s notes
