Enjoy this folk’s because it won’t last long. In little more than 2 weeks the days will be getting shorter and in two months I’ll be changing the oil on my snowblower. Welcome to the best part of the year here in the North! Now is the time for sipping Rosé on the patio after a day of working in the garden. It’s time for a rich red wine as you get the grill ready. This is the time to be outside with friends, family and neighbors. You gather the people and we’ll get you the wine.

Cheers! -Bill the Wine Guy

Gerard Bertrand Cotes des Rosés AOP Languedoc

“A soft, pale, brilliant pink with bluish tints developing over time towards more orangey nuances. The bouquet releases aromas of summer fruits, cassis and redcurrant. Floral notes of rose along with hints of grapefruit complete the picture. The finish is fresh, offering notes of candy. On the palate the impression is fresh and full, with great aromatic persistence and balance.” -Winemaker’s notes

Domaine Piquemal Cote Roussillon 2017

This has become one of my favorite producers. Classic family owned Cotes du Roussillon producer from just north of Perpignan growing Grenache, Syrah and Carignan. The wine is purple with bright edges. No oak used here, just stainless-steel vessels for fermentation and finishing. Flavors of dark berries, wild herb, fennel and a hint of bacon. Marie-Pierre Piquemal is still in her 30s and she was The Guide Hatchette 2018 Winemaker of the Year!

This is one of the best buys in the whole store!

Jeff Carrel DSM Sous la Montagne

This wine comes from mountaintop vineyards grown among the wild herbs and “garrigue” near the town of Assignan. The bulk of the blend is very old vine Carignan grown in a bush format with no trellising. It also has a healthy dose of Syrah and Grenache and is rounded out with a dollop of Lledoner Pelut. It is purplish-black and bursting with blackberry fennel aromas with a touch of menthol. Wild herbs and black fruit dominate the palate and the finish is silky and smooth as the wine is fermented and finished in stainless steel. Lamb, stew, Cassoulet, beef short ribs and strong cheeses are on the menu here. Check out this video for an aerial tour of Jeff’s Sous la Montagne vineyards.
