The wine world is full of surprises. Good wines can transform and elevate a meal. Wine can bring folks together or help us unwind and relax. I love that every day I can learn things about regions, styles, varietals and people too. When Austerity wines were presented to me as a possible new line to carry, I was skeptical since I see so much forgettable stuff. Austerity’s wines are from California’s 7th largest producer, a winery owned by Jeff O’Neil. O’Neil produces a lot of wine and some it is very good. Trouble is they make a ton of custom label wines, some of which I’m sure you have heard of. They are responsible for the Line 39 wines, for example, which I believe are excellent values.

Austerity’s wines are made from grapes sourced from noble California appellations like the Santa Lucia Highlands, Arroyo Secco and Paso Robles. They are unapologetically California styled offerings that are fruity, rich and delicious. The name is a bit odd to me since there is nothing “austere” about these. I plan on enjoying the hell out of this Chardonnay and the Pinot Noir has been recognized by several wine magazines as being outstanding. Top notch values by a producer I was previously unaware of. Fascinating and exciting how much great wine is out there at affordable prices!

Cheers,
