I’m sure by now you have seen the Noble Vines wines from Delicato Family Vineyards (the family name is actually Indelicato) in our stores, but have you ever wondered what all those numbers on the label mean? I want to bring this mystery to light for you. Let’s take the Cabernet Sauvignon for example. The number 337 refers to a Cabernet Sauvignon clonal selection that came from Bordeaux, France many years ago. “Why is that important,” you ask? For centuries, vintners have cultivated cuttings from individual vines that produce exceptional grapes with specific attributes such as berry size, bunch size, drought resistance, mold and disease resistance, bud break timing, days to maturity, etc. These specific vines are given a clonal name, for the cabernet it’s 337. This particular clone of Cabernet Sauvignon is amongst the most popular in California. 181 is a clone of Merlot developed in France and grown extensively in California and other wine regions around the globe. All of these numbers are part of the quality factor for these affordable wines coming from some of the best vineyards the Indelicato family has at their disposal. These are terrific wines for your everyday wine consumption. Below are the tasting notes from the winemaker and Indelicato folks:
