As much as I might like a big hoppy brew anytime of the year, when the nights get long and that deep chill gets into the air I thirst for a big dark stout. Here is a couple of one’s that I think are worth a drink. Also, one IPA because you know…

And Now, the Brews

Breckenridge | Nitro Chocolate Orange Stout
Breckenridge Chocolate Orange Stout
This beer comes with a set of directions on the side, and I’m taking this serious and following the rules. This beer pours very light to be a Stout; it even has an orange hue. It has some strong dark chocolate, coffee and yes, an orange aroma. This beer is a light bodied Stout that easy to drink. I would have liked to drink this colder than what I did, around 42 degrees would have been nice. Huge Orange flavor with nice chocolate notes. They did a good job at making this beer taste just like the chocolate orange candy. I’m glad that I tried this beer, it’s fun one to bring to a party to share. I’m not sure if I could finish a 4pk by myself but one was fun. 2 out of 5 bottle caps. This beer goes well with the candy you find at the bottom of your Christmas stocking or Easter basket. Whatever comes first.

Lupulin Brewing | Imperial Raspberry Truffle
Lupulin Imperial Raspberry Truffle I’ve been looking forward to this one. There is a lot of hype around this one, and I love finding out what the hype is all about. Well, here it goes. Pouring this beer into my glass I can see just how thick it is. Very dark and rich with a thick head. It smells like chocolate and sweet. Wow, the first sip is pure raspberry tartness all over my tongue, this is great. After that, you get a big chocolate note. With all that going on, this is a pretty easy beer to drink for a big beer. A good beer to share with friends or not. 4 out of 5 bottle caps. I would enjoy this with raspberry toaster strudel and vanilla ice cream.

Tallgrass Brewing | Idaho 7 IPA
Tallgrass_Idaho_7_IPA I truly love single hop brews. Idaho 7 is a new experimental variety born in Kansas. This beer just smells of big sticky piney Funk and I love it. Nice golden color, tight carbonation mouth feel with little malt sweetness but a big hop bite. I get a lot of pine and citrus notes. This is a beer for hop heads. 4 out of 5 bottle caps. This beer goes well with a Monster burger from Hardees.
