Deborah and Edward Wallo both grew up in homes where wine with family meals was customary. After they married they were fortunate to live in several wine regions in Europe which furthered their passion for fine wine. It was a visit to California’s Mendocino County where they fell in love with an old winery property that needed a lot of care and hard work to rebuild, and it was for sale! After careful study, all evidence pointed to the classic Bordeaux varietals for their property, and, in fact, they grow all eight. (Can you name them?)

This year marks the 30th anniversary of Yorkville Cellars certification as an organic producer. That is quite a commitment and accomplishment. The winery is situated very close to the Russian and Navarro Rivers, and keeping pesticides out of any runoff has always been a priority for the Wallos. The wines are delicious and nicely balanced. Even if the organic certification is not important to you, they still deserve a try and a spot at your table. These are classic California wines with a European influence.

Cheers,

-Bill the Wine Guy
