Bobby Stuckey, Master Sommelier, and Lachlan Mackinnon-Patterson met while working at the world renowned restaurant The French Laundry in Yountville, California. Stuckey was the sommelier, wine director and multiple James Beard Award winner, while Lachlan was the much lauded chef de partie. The pair launched their own restaurant in 2004, opening Frasca in Boulder, Colorado with a Friulian theme. This put them in Northeast Italy doing extensive research on local food and wine and after making many contacts with local producers, they decided to create their own wine label, Scarpetta. Having this dynamic duo of food and wine experts has definitely resulted in the creation of delicious wines for food and parties! The wines are fresh and vibrant and best of all, eminently affordable! Saluti!A word about frico crisps. They are a fun creation of northeastern Italian cuisine made from shredded or grated Parmasiano-Reggiano cheese melted in a thin layer in a non-stick frying pan. Use them to build appetizers upon or to garnish a salad.

This wine is a mouthful of pleasure: lots of fruit, medium tannins and a long, lingering finish. We would recommend some cellar time for this wine if only to allow all of the great aromas and flavors properly meld.

This cuvee of “Frico Rosso” from the hilltop region of Central Tuscany is a nod to the celebrated tradition of field blends. With aromas of cherry, cranberry and subtle spice, Frico Rosso offers cherry, plum and earthy notes on the palate. It’s a juicy wine with light tannins.
