We’re springing ahead this week to ready ourselves for Earth Month (April).  This weekend we’ll taste through the twin siblings-Pinot Noir & Pinot Gris-from Cooper Mountain Vineyard situated on a now-defunct volcano in the Tualatin Valley, located southwest of Portland. Dr. Robert & Corrine Gross first broke soil in 1978 and, finally, in 1987 debuted their first vintage.  Early in the years, they worked to transition their vineyard into “Organic” by forgoing, at the time, the popular use of pesticide, herbicide, and fungicide. Instead, they utilized the labor-intensive field methods.

Their intuition paid off when Wine Spectator, Decanter, The New York Times, and many other publications began recognizing the quality of their wines, irrespective and regardless of their farming philosophy. Over time, however, as more individuals became sensitive to one of, or a combination of, high sulfites, perfumes, dyes & herbicide/pesticide, their wines took on another level of appreciation and popularity as it tastes delicious and feels great afterward.

Whether you sip on or off, regarding “Organic” or “biodynamic” the Cooper Mountain Wines, on their own, stand out as a quality first and feel-good philosophy last.

Cooper Hill Pinot Noir
This organic and Biodynamic Pinot Noir has a nose that boasts some black cherry and a little pine duff. Slightly sappy and rich in the mid-palate making it very friendly with food and as a nice quaffing red for light apps. The finish is elegant and lengthy.
