In all my 25 plus years as a Wine Buyer, I have never seen a region as ignored and neglected by the wine buying public as the wines of Alsace, France. The Alsace is truly one of the greatest white wine growing regions of the world and yet it gets even less respect than Rodney Dangerfield. Since the area has traded hands between Germany and France several times historically, the wines initially were more Germanic in style but lately, the French influence has dominated with wines fully fermented dry and made for pairing with food. When it comes to Alsatian cuisine, my favorites are sausage and sauerkraut and, of course, tart flambeé which is an onion and bacon pizza-like concoction that I cannot get enough of. I find the wines extremely well made and long-lived, even for the whites. These should be regularly enjoyed by all wine enthusiasts!

The Willm Winery is located in the northern section of the Alsace in the sub-region of Barr. Wines have been made here for as far back as the 8th century. Wines grown on the granite and clay-limestone soils of the Barr zone are fresh, floral and nicely fruity.  Come in and try them this Saturday from 1 PM to 4 PM and see for yourself how wonderful and unique they can be.

Cheers,

-Bill the Wine Guy
